Ronnie’s Bio

Ronald Waibi, (Ronnie) was born into a poor family in Kamuli, Eastern Uganda in 1991. His father, an abusive alcoholic, was absent from his life and Ronnie was raised by just his mum in a small, grass-roofed hut.

Thankfully, Ronnie’s mother understood the importance of education and was tenacious in securing sponsorship for his schooling throughout primary and secondary education; if one sponsor left, she persisted until she found a new one. Ronnie finally studied for a Diploma in Electrical Engineering from Datamine Technical Institute, Makere.

It was at university in 2016 that Ronnie met his wife Specioza, a business student, who was also from a poor, farming background.

Both Ronnie and Specioza had hearts of compassion for their community and a firm conviction that they could make a difference, as they understand firsthand the challenges of life in Kamuli’s Kasokoso communities.

(Kasokoso community = the very poorest areas of town, where people endure poverty and hunger on a daily basis, where disease, without access to medical care, is rife and illiteracy is the norm.)

One night, whilst still at university, Ronnie had a dream where he established a centre, supporting struggling children in the community where he grew up. This dream confirmed the vision that was growing in his heart.

After graduating in 2017, Ronnie and Specioza moved back to Kamuli, where Ronnie started a business as an electrician. Electricity was a new concept in town, so work poured in, enabling them to save up and buy a plot of land, where they have been building the Helping Hands Centre since 2021.

Throughout these years, Ronnie and Specioza prayed fervently to God for guidance, provision and help and were later joined on their journey by a couple from their church, Wilber and Catherine.

Since then, God has been establishing links with the UK, enabling the work of the charity to grow.
